Query Experiment

Dear Ms. Epstein,

I’m currently looking to publish my YA debut novel I Remember When. I think you might find an interest in this, because you said that you were looking for new voices in fiction. My book is reminiscent of the film Midnight in Paris as well as the book The Mortal Instruments.

My story is about a strong-willed girl with an old soul and affinity for the past named Evelyn. She has recently moved to a new town, and began working at an antique store called “I Remember When.” The owner of this store is an old Russian man with a temper named Aleksei. She is constantly being bothered by a frustratingly obnoxious man named Isaiah who is insistent on annoying Eve throughout her day.

One day, Eve goes into the closet of the store and finds a mysterious letter addressed to Aleksei from the 1960s from a man named Barnabas Moreau. This man is warning Alek to “stop messing with time” and to “keep the girl from harm.” Eve gets back to work until she goes to the back room to explore. Evelyn finds an old film camera and projector, which she uses to watch footage from the 60s.

Unknowingly she has opened a gateway into 1960 England, Oxford University. She discovers this the next day when she hears a loud noise coming from the projector. Upon arrival, she meets a man named Oliver who shows her around. She finally gets to live out her affinity for the time period. But then she meets a professor but the name of Barnabas Moreau; the man from the letter.

Shortly after this, she sees Isaiah walking around the campus and frantically wonders how he got there. As it turns out, he had been waiting for her to go on their date that she was forced into going on. Now, with both of them stuck in 1960, they must figure out how to save Alek’s girl and return home.

Evelyn is faced with many questions: Will she be willing to risk it all for a mysterious man she meets? Will she and Isaiah be able to save Aleksei’s girlfriend without disrupting time? Evelyn soon comes to realize that getting to live in the past may not be what she had dreamed it would be.

I have attached the first 4 chapters in the book, and can give you the rest of the manuscript, in part, upon your request. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
